On this day in 1959, NASA announced it’s very first astronauts; Scott Carpenter, L. Gordon Cooper Jr., John H. Glenn Jr., Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Walter Schirra Jr., Alan Shepard Jr., and Donald Slayton. Can you imagine the party these astronauts must have thrown?
On this same day, fifty-four years later, Lila was born. So, In the spirit of celebration, coincidence and announcements, I wanted to update you on Lila’s memorial foundation.
We’d been planning a really big party to celebrate Lila; music, dancing, space exploration! I started talking with venues at the beginning of the year about putting on a benefit concert but, in spite of all the planning and coordination, Corona canceled us before we could even make a proper announcement. Instead, we’ll be throwing a little party for two here at home.
Because we don’t know when things will be back to normal, we can’t say when or where the next main Nightlight event will be, but it’s coming.
Two things:
We have Nightlight shirts and hats for sale on our website. All of the proceeds brought in from our online store will go to our STEM Education fundraising goal of $50,000. A couple of weeks after the accident some friends gave me a certificate with the coordinates of a star that they had named after Lila. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. The design for the shirt and hat are inspired by these coordinates.
This second announcement is virus-tentative but worth putting into the universe. Over the years I have had some incredible experiences playing private living room shows across the country and I want these intimate experiences to be a part of Nightlight. I am setting up a series of private Nightlight shows in the fall. For a $1000 donation (and cost of travel, if any) I’ll come to your living room with a guitar and we’ll share some uplifting and unique experiences together.
